One year ago, I was preparing for my photo trip to the Arctic Circle. I found a great workshop leader and photo guide in David Shaw (david-w-shaw.com). I flew to Fairbanks, then we drove several hours north to Wiseman. It’s a small village of about 13 people. It was so nice to get away from the D.C. area and enjoy some quiet time. While we were walking around the village, I would stop and listen to the silence. No traffic. No people. No wind. Dead silence. Relaxing! I saw lots of birds and a couple of snowshoe hares. On the way back to Fairbanks, I finally saw some moose. One was in the middle of the road looking for an escape route back into the woods. The trip was such a great experience. I hope to return to Alaska someday.
